Wrongful Conviction in a Financial Crimes Case?

It appears there may have been a wrongful conviction in a U.S. federal financial crimes case involving a Goldman Sachs computer programmer. You don’t see claims of wrongful conviction too often in financial crime cases. The 2nd Circuit federal appellate court issued a 1-page decision overturning the conviction and ordering the defendant acquitted, and said it will issue its detailed decision with explanation later. The fact that the court wanted the case overturned immediately without having the conviction stand while the opinion was being written is interesting. Obviously, this case wouldn’t be a “who done it” like in most innocence cases. It appears to be that the U.S. government overreached and attempted to charge the computer programmer for something that isn’t illegal. Details here and here.
