Valentino Ianetti’s wife took enough oxycodone to cause her death, and then stabbed herself multiple times. Valentino was charged with murder and jailed on $500,000 bond. After 4 years in jail without a trial, his court-appointed attorney was able to produce new evidence showing that Ianetti’s wife had actually committed suicide. This was independently confirmed by the prosecution, charges were dropped, and Ianetti was freed.
