Hearing in Michigan Today in “Facebook” Innocence Case

Here’s a story of an interesting case that a Detroit judge is hearing today, involving two brothers in prison for a 1987 murder. A new witness has come forward, who doesn’t know the Highers brothers, but who learned on Facebook that they had been convicted of the murder of Robert Karey. The witness, who was unknown at the time trial, witnessed the crime and has signed a sworn statement that the two killers were black. The Highers brothers are white.

Facebook also connected the Highers brothers with the lawyer who has been fighting for their exoneration. The Washington D.C. lawyer, originally from the neighborhood where the murders occurred, read about the case on Facebook and decided to get involved. [hat tip to Marty Yant]
